Qinghai Lake
Mid August 2010
It was Ramadan, and I had the option to go to the Dongguan Mosque and experience 100,000 Muslims praying, or
join the excursion to Qinghai Lake with the team. I went for the lake, which had a Tibetan village close by.
My day didn't start up too well. Still having diarrhea & having to use a dirty Tibetan hole wasn't that much fun, then
slipping and totally getting wet in six degree temperature when trying to jump over a pond was the crowning. But
probably the worst was taking thirty six frames and realizing afterwards that the film didn't wind properly. By late
afternoon though, my luck changed when I hitchhiked over to a Tibetan village and was able to take some photos.
Tibetan cornrows...
I somehow just came at the right day & time since there was a traditional dance competition between different
tribes going on while I was present...
Monks were judging...
She lost.
Tibetan people are extremely welcoming.
After the shoot, Danny and I hitchhiked on a ride up the hill with a local family.

Bye Bye Tibet!
We were around two weeks into the trip and the skaters were slowly getting exhausted. Next Destination, Dali!
Sad/angry Mao...
Happy Mao!

After landing in Kunming and taking the shortest flight of my life, consisting of 15 minutes, we were in Dali, the hippy
city of the Yunnan province.
