While one part of Shanghai is rising up above the skies, the other is left behind and crumbling without a future of stability. I lived in various parts of China the past decade, but no where did I enjoy living more than in Shanghai. Besides the obvious expatriate pleasures within the French concession, living outside of the bubble can be quite rewarding and entertaining considering that the Chinese just have traditional but also corky and mind boggling ways of dealing with situations on a daily basis. These photos were shot during the roughly five weeks out of a six month window that I was living with three Americans on Daji Road, not far from a neighborhood about to be destroyed within months.
