While most people have a certain image of the Republic of China, the typical stereotype get broken once one ventures a bit more west. The tall skyscrapers to temples from the Tang Dynasty, the people shouting mandarin, the omnipresent of Chinese characters surrounding you start disappearing once you are headed towards central Asia. With Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan just around the corner, the Xinjiang Province of China does certainly feel like another world. 'The Silky Way' a short web series (filmed in the Autumn of 2014) for Red Bull Media House took us from Shanghai all the way to Kashgar via train. The change from one culture to another doesn't happen by a boarder in this case, it rather takes a seventy five hour train ride to separate two cultures living under one umbrella.
